Fall 2023 Woodturning Class
October 9th Update - Our fourth session met last Thursday to continue bowl turning. It was a very busy evening with much progress being made.
We started the evening with a display of completed pieces that Karl and I have turned. This was to show our class members the range of work they can accomplish in class as well as to share our love of woodturning and the range of work that can be produced.
The attached photos show the variety of work that was done that evening – from bowls to goblets. Not shown is a three piece bowl-on-stand by a returning student that is still in production. That will be featured in a future email.
October 29th Update - The two previous classes were busy and productive. Our turners are making projects of their own choosing using spindle turning, bowl turning, and combinations of both. The attached photos are examples of their work. The compote is four pieces of ash, each individually turned and fitted together using mortise and tenon joinery. The pepper and salt combination is korina; the bottle stoppers will be gifts for the upcoming holiday season. The segmented bowl is oak and walnut that was glued up in the turner's home and turned and finished in class. It is an involved and adventurous piece that any turner would be proud to produce.
This Thursday, November 2, is the last class of the semester.
The next turning class is scheduled to begin on January 25 and will run for eight consecutive weeks, ending on March 14, 2024.
