Cape Atlantic Woodturners  Meeting Minutes

Location:  Egg Harbor Township Public Library

Date June 14, 2022 Time 6:00 p.m.

 The meeting was called to order by the president, Melissa Flynn. All in attendance introduced themselves to the group. 

OLD BUSINESS

Meeting Venue

Melissa advised that the library is having a problem with the HVAC system. The room was a bit uncomfortable. They do not have a date when they expect the new air conditioning system to be upgraded. Melissa advised members to dress for a warm room. 

Melissa related that Ron put out an announcement (could not hear due to background noise) with regard to future meetings. Melissa updated the members with regard to meeting at the vocational school – nothing new to report at this time. The third Tuesdays are still an issue at this current venue (EHT Library) due to a long-term scheduling conflict with another group that meets here. She asked if we wanted to consider a different Tuesday. Toni mentioned the Galloway library. Joe Jones mentioned the convenience of that library to the Garden State Parkway. 

Dues  

Melissa reminded all about the dues. The form will be updated with the new mailing address, and sent to the membership. 

Treasurer

Mr. Bruman was excused due to prior commitments. 

Turning Class

Sue stated that she intends to return as a student, but requested to allow new students first spots and she would be happy to come as a volunteer. Melissa offered the same. Joe was receptive and stated he has some control over the number of students.

No updates to report at this time. 

Cape May County 4H Fair

Given that the club is still reorganizing, it was decided to forego the 4H fair for 2022. We will look into this for 2023. We will look into both Cape May and Atlantic County fairs. We will work on getting coverage for both events. 

NEW BUSINESS

Sue suggested getting generic business cards for the club. It seemed like something all were interested in. Melissa stated we need contact information like email, phone, etc. to be printed. We will work on this. 

SHOW & TELL

Ron Befferman presented a beautiful segmented bowl which he created about 10 years ago. He explained the process used, and answered all questions.  Joe Jones presented a segmented pen which was an homage to Betty Campbell. Toni and Robert presented a flea market find of an interesting box. Jeff referred to it as a “bandsaw box”. Jeff Schnell presented the group with candy!

DEMONSTRATION

Picking up from where we left off at the last meeting, Joe Jones gave a demonstration of the spiral turning which he presented as a show and tell at the May meeting. 

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:30 p.m. The next regular meeting the Cape Atlantic Woodturners is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Egg Harbor Township Library.
